HammerAI publishes the biggest numbered free allowance of the ten AI girlfriend apps we compared: 600 messages a day on its cloud models, according to its pricing page on 31 October 2026. CrushOn’s free plan goes further on paper and lists “Unlimited access to Free Models” plus 100 credits a month for its better models. At the other end, Candy AI and SweetDream give 5 messages in total, and OurDream charges a coin for every message a free user sends.
We read each app’s pricing page, help centre and terms on 27 and 28 October 2026, and every number below comes from those pages, listed in the sources at the end. We have not paid for these apps, so nothing here carries a score. The order follows the free allowance each app publishes, largest first, and commission plays no part in it. How we test explains what a paid test would add. Every app here is for adults 18 and over.
Candy AI, OurDream and GoLove pay us a commission if you subscribe through the links on this page. The other seven earn us nothing from this page.
Which free plan lets the app be your girlfriend
Replika keeps chat free but locks the romantic relationship behind its paid plan. Its help centre says chatting “will always be free”, and in the same help centre: “Additional relationship options beyond “friend” like romantic partner, mentor, etc., are unlocked starting with a Replika Pro subscription.” A free Replika can talk with you every day, but its relationship status stays “friend”.

On the pricing and help pages we read, none of the other nine apps lists the relationship type as a paid feature. Their free limits are about volume: how many messages, how often they refill, and what happens when they run out. If a romantic role is the point, Replika’s free plan does not give it.
Free messages each app publishes
| App | Free allowance (as published) | When it runs out | Cheapest published paid plan |

| CrushOn | Unlimited on free models, plus 100 credits a month for Pro models | Credits refill monthly | $5.99 a month, or $58.88 a year |
| HammerAI | 600 cloud messages a day; local models free and unlimited | Refills daily | $9 a month |
| Secrets AI | 20 messages a day, 500 characters each | Refills daily | $19.99 a month, or $109.99 a year |
| Replika | Chat “will always be free”; no cap published | No cap published | Shown in the app and app stores |
| Nomi | “Free to start chatting”, no card; no cap published | No cap published | $15.99 a month, or $99.99 a year |
| Kindroid | 50 messages once (15 in some regions), 5 selfies, 2 Kindroids | Account turns read-only | US App Store: $15.99 a month, $42.99 for 3 months or $159.99 a year |
| GoLove | A usage limit, “e.g., 10 messages” | Redirect to the payment page | Shown at the paywall |
| Candy AI | 5 messages in total, 1 custom character, 1 image | Paywall | $3.99 a month billed yearly ($47.88) |
| SweetDream | 5 messages and 3 voice plays in total | Never resets | $12.99 a week, $79 every 3 months, or $179 a year |

The 10 free plans, from most free chat to least
Apps that publish an unlimited or daily allowance come first, then apps that publish no cap, then one-time allowances from largest to smallest, then the app with no free messages.
CrushOn: best for long free chats on basic models
CrushOn’s pricing page lists the free plan at $0 with “100 Message Credits / Month”, “Unlimited access to Free Models” and “Consume Credits to access Pro Models”. Its top models are off limits: “Ultra Models are Unavailable”. Free chat history does not last. The same page says: “Chat History will be deleted after 7 days of inactivity.” Skip it if you want a long-running relationship you return to after a week away. The cheapest paid plan, Standard, is $58.88 a year. Our CrushOn AI overview covers its terms and refunds.
HammerAI: best for heavy daily use
HammerAI’s free plan gives “600 messages / day” on its cloud models with a “Max Context Size” of 8,192 tokens, and its local models run free with no cap. The paid plans start at Starter, “$9 / month”. On the free plan, HammerAI sends recent chat text to an ad server (see the data section). Skip it if you do not want chat text sent to an ad server. Our HammerAI overview has the full plan table.
Secrets AI: best for a short chat every day
The Secrets AI wiki lists the free tier as “20 messages per day (resets daily, max 100 for custom characters)”, with messages up to 500 characters and a “Basic memory system”. The limit follows your device, so a second account does not reset it. Premium is $19.99 a month or $109.99 billed yearly.

Skip it if you write long messages, since each one stops at 500 characters. Our Secrets AI review covers its prices and refund policy.
Replika: best for a free friend, with romance paid
Replika publishes no message cap and says chat “will always be free”. The free plan stays at friend status, as quoted above, and Replika shows its prices only in the app and the app stores. Skip it if you want a girlfriend role without paying. Read our Replika overview, or the Replika alternatives page if the paywall is the problem.
Nomi: best for trying without a card
Nomi’s homepage says: “It’s free (no credit card required) to start chatting.” It publishes no free message cap. Its refund policy says that on the free plan, one-to-one chats continue, while “group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls will become read-only.” Paid plans are $15.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Skip it if voice calls are the reason you want a companion. Our Nomi AI overview has the details.
Kindroid: best for a full-feature preview
Kindroid gives new accounts “50 messages with standard paid memory (15 in some regions)”, “5 selfies in total” and “Up to 2 Kindroids”. When the preview ends, the account goes read-only: “Read-only accounts can’t send messages, regenerate, make calls, or receive proactive messages.” Your chats are kept. Kindroid’s website shows no prices, but its US App Store listing shows $15.99 a month, $42.99 for 3 months or $159.99 a year. A 3-day premium trial is also offered, and it needs a card and converts to a paid plan unless you cancel. Skip it if you want to keep chatting free after the first day or two. See our Kindroid overview.
GoLove: best for a quick look before paying
GoLove’s terms say: “Upon reaching the usage limit (e.g., 10 messages), you will be redirected to the payment interface.” The terms give 10 as an example, not a fixed number, and GoLove shows prices only at that paywall. Skip it if you want to know the price before you start. Try GoLove (affiliate link: we earn a commission if you subscribe).
Candy AI: best for testing the paid app cheaply
Candy AI’s help centre lets free users “Send up to 5 messages in chat (across all characters)”, create one custom character and generate one image. The paid plan is cheap if you commit: $3.99 a month billed as $47.88 a year, or $9.99 for the first month and then $13.99 a month. Skip it if you are looking for free use beyond a first look. SweetDream: best for hearing a voice before you pay
SweetDream’s pricing page says: “A free account comes with 5 messages and 3 voice plays.” It adds: “Free use is counted per account, across all your chats, and doesn’t reset.” Its plan table shows $12.99 a week, $79 every 3 months or $179 a year, with no monthly plan. Skip it if you want a monthly plan or more than a short sample. Our SweetDream AI overview covers its token costs.
OurDream: for people ready to subscribe
OurDream’s help centre lists “Free user chats: 1 dreamcoin per message” and “Subscriber chats: 0 dreamcoins”, and a second help article says “we don’t currently offer free dreamcoins”, though it points to Discord, where it says it often gives away coins and runs competitions. Subscriptions cost $9.99 a month billed yearly ($119.88) or $19.99 monthly. Skip it if you want any free chat at all. What free costs you in data and memory
Two free plans carry costs that do not show up as a price.
HammerAI’s privacy policy (section 11.1, read 27 October 2026) says that on the free tier “your browser sends a limited amount of recent chat content” to an ad server, and “Ads are shown only to users of our free tier.” Section 16.2 adds that this sharing “occurs on our free tier regardless of your cookie settings”. Paid plans do not send chat content to ad providers.
CrushOn deletes free chat history after 7 idle days, as quoted above. Secrets AI gives free users a “Basic memory system”, and HammerAI caps free context at 8,192 tokens, so a free companion on either app holds less of your past conversation than a paid one. Our AI girlfriend app privacy page compares how long these apps keep your data.
Which free AI girlfriend app to start with
- For the most free messages: HammerAI (600 a day) or CrushOn on its free models.
- For a short daily chat that refills: Secrets AI, 20 messages a day.
- For a free companion with no romance: Replika.
- For a preview of a paid-grade app before you subscribe: Kindroid’s 50 messages, then Candy AI or OurDream if you decide to pay.
Pick one, use the free allowance for a day, and note when it runs out. If you want adult chat apps instead of companions, our free NSFW AI chat apps page compares eight free tiers on the same basis.
What changed on 31 October 2026
We re-checked every free plan. The order is unchanged. Kindroid’s US App Store listing now shows prices and its help page added a 3-day trial that needs a card, so we updated its row, its section and the card question. We added SweetDream’s weekly plan, CrushOn’s monthly price, OurDream’s Discord coin giveaways, and made clear that HammerAI’s 600 a day is the biggest numbered allowance while CrushOn’s free models carry no published cap.
