CrushOn gives the most free use of the eight adult AI chat apps we compared: 100 message credits every month, according to its pricing page, re-checked on 31 October 2026. Candy AI gives the least, 5 messages in total. No app we checked publishes unlimited free chat, so every free tier here is a trial of some kind, and the differences are in how long it lasts and what happens when it ends.
This is a research comparison, not a ranking. We read each app’s help centre, terms and pricing pages on 21 October 2026, re-checked them on 31 October 2026, and quote them with dates. We have not paid for these apps, so there are no scores, and the order below follows how each free tier works, not who pays us. How we test explains what a paid test would add. Every app here is for adults 18 and over. Candy AI, OurDream and GoLove pay us a commission if you subscribe through our links. The other five pay us nothing. If you are leaving Character.AI, our Character AI alternatives page compares the paid plans of the same apps.

Free plans that keep going: CrushOn, SpicyChat and Nomi
CrushOn: 100 message credits a month
Best for: regular free use with a monthly refill. CrushOn’s pricing page lists 100 message credits a month on the free plan, with “8K Memory” and 200 stored messages per character. Its strongest models are off the table: the free column says “Ultra Models are Unavailable”. The catch is chat history. CrushOn’s pricing page says free accounts’ “Chat History will be deleted after 7 days of inactivity”, so a free character forgets you after a week away. The cheapest paid plan, Standard, costs $5.99 a month or $58.88 a year for 2,000 credits a month. Do not pay for CrushOn expecting a partial refund: its terms say “We do not offer partial refunds or credits for unused time, mid-cycle cancellations, or downgrades.” Our CrushOn overview covers all six tiers.
SpicyChat: no published cap, with ads
Best for: free chat without a published message cap. SpicyChat’s plan page publishes no free message limit. Its cheapest tier, Get a Taste at $5.95 a month, is described as “Everything in Free, plus: Chat Without Ads”, which tells you the free plan shows ads. Unlimited in-chat images start one tier higher, at True Supporter for $19.95 a month, and paying yearly saves 17% according to the same page.

Nomi: free to start, limits unpublished
Best for: trying a companion without entering a card. Nomi’s homepage says “It’s free (no credit card required) to start chatting” and publishes no free message cap. Nomi’s refund policy describes what the free plan loses: on a downgrade, one-to-one chats continue, but “group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls will become read-only.” Nomi’s paid plan costs $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year, according to Nomi’s own 2026 comparison article. Do not subscribe to try it for a week: Nomi’s refund policy rules out refunds for “buyers remorse, lack of usage, or dissatisfaction.”
Free allowances that end: Kindroid, GirlfriendGPT, GoLove and Candy AI
Kindroid: a 50-message preview, then read-only
Best for: testing memory quality before paying. Kindroid replaced its free plan with a one-time preview, described on its subscriptions page (updated 30 October 2026). A new account gets “50 messages with standard paid memory (15 in some regions)”, up to 2 Kindroids and 5 selfies, handed out one at signup and then one every 2 hours. After that the account becomes read-only: you can read and export your chats but not send messages. Kindroid’s website publishes no prices, but its US App Store listing shows $15.99 a month, $42.99 for 3 months or $159.99 a year. New users can also take a 3-day premium trial, which needs a card and turns into a paid plan unless you cancel it. Our Kindroid overview explains the trial and add-ons.
GirlfriendGPT: 10 to 20 messages in total
Best for: a short look before a $15 plan. GirlfriendGPT’s terms, last modified on 18 June 2026, say free users “can generate up to 2 or 3 characters and have a limited message count, such as 10 to 20 messages in total”, and can earn credits by completing tasks. Its FAQ lists Premium at $15 a month, Deluxe at $35 and Elite at $50. GirlfriendGPT’s terms say it “does not offer refunds for subscriptions that have been paid for”. GirlfriendGPT and SpicyChat name the same operator, NextDay AI, in their footers. See our GirlfriendGPT overview.
GoLove: a short free run, then the paywall
Best for: a quick look before the paywall. GoLove’s terms, revised on 3 February 2026, describe the free limit by example: “Upon reaching the usage limit (e.g., 10 messages), you will be redirected to the payment interface.” GoLove shows its prices only at that paywall. GoLove’s privacy policy says it usually keeps personal information for six years after you close the account, and GirlfriendGPT’s privacy policy says the same. Commission: GoLove pays us if you subscribe through this link.
Candy AI: 5 messages, 1 character, 1 image
Best for: deciding fast whether to buy a yearly plan. Candy AI’s help centre, updated on 13 October 2026, says free users can “Send up to 5 messages in chat (across all characters)”, create one custom character and generate one image. Candy’s US plan page on 21 October 2026 showed $3.99 a month billed yearly ($47.88), or $9.99 for the first month and then $13.99 a month. Candy refunds only within 24 hours of payment, only if you have used 20 tokens or fewer, and only for card payments. Our Candy AI review covers tokens and cancelling. Commission: Candy AI pays us through this link.

OurDream charges from the first message
OurDream has no free message allowance in practice. Its help centre lists “Free user chats: 1 dreamcoin per message” and “Subscriber chats: 0 dreamcoins”, and a separate help article says “we don’t currently offer free dreamcoins”, outside Discord giveaways, contests, referrals and gifts. OurDream’s homepage FAQ prices the subscription at $9.99 a month on a yearly plan, billed as $119.88 up front, or $19.99 a month on a monthly plan, with 1,000 dreamcoins for images and video. The homepage says that allowance comes each month, while a help article says coins “do not refresh monthly” and arrive on the billing anniversary. Best for: people who already know they want image and video generation in one plan. Our OurDream review has the coin costs. Commission: OurDream pays us through this link.

Which free tier fits what you want
- To chat for free every month, start with CrushOn’s 100 credits, and come back within 7 days or the history goes.
- To chat without a published cap, SpicyChat is the option, but expect ads.
- To judge one companion’s memory before paying, Kindroid’s 50-message preview is the largest one-time allowance.
- If you already want images and video, compare Candy AI’s $3.99 yearly plan with OurDream’s $9.99 yearly plan, because neither gives much free.
Before you pay for any of them, read what each app does with your chats, since GoLove and GirlfriendGPT both say they usually keep personal information for six years after you close the account.
What changed on 31 October 2026
We re-checked every free limit and price. Kindroid’s US App Store listing now shows prices, its subscriptions page was updated on 30 October with a selfie schedule and a 3-day paid trial, and OurDream’s help centre contradicts its homepage on how often coins arrive. GirlfriendGPT, CrushOn, SpicyChat, Nomi, GoLove and Candy AI were unchanged. We added a question on GirlfriendGPT refunds.
