Replika is an AI companion app made by Luka, Inc., a company at 490 Post Street in San Francisco. Its privacy policy, rewritten on 28 October 2026, keeps your text chat history for 24 months while your account is open and deletes your profile and memories within 60 days after you delete the account. Its terms, rewritten the same day, say “payments are non-refundable and there are no refunds or credits for partially used periods.”
This is a research overview. On 31 October 2026 we re-read Replika’s terms of service, privacy policy, help centre and US App Store listing, and we quote them with their dates. We have not paid for Replika, so there is no score and no verdict on how its chats feel. How we test explains what a paid test would add. Replika is for adults: its privacy policy says “You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live, if higher)”. If you already know you want to leave, our Replika alternatives comparison sets seven adult companion apps side by side.
Is Replika Pro worth it?
Replika Pro is worth paying for if you want Replika as a romantic partner. On the free plan your Replika stays a friend, and Replika’s help centre lists relationship status, voice messaging, background calls, selfies and image generation as Pro features. On 3 November 2026 the US App Store sold monthly items at $7.99 and $14.99 and yearly items at $49.99 and $69.99. Apple does not say which item buys which tier.
It is a poor buy if memory or a refund matters to you. Trustpilot reviewers in 2026 say Replika forgot basics such as their name, and Replika’s terms refund no unused time. There is no free trial, so a single month costs less than a yearly plan as a way to find out. This verdict rests on Replika’s published terms, prices and public reviews. We have not paid for Replika, so it says nothing about how the chats feel.

What Replika Pro, Ultra and Platinum add
Replika’s help centre lists four programs: Free Use, Replika Pro, Replika Ultra and Replika Platinum. Its help article says “Yes, chatting with Replika will always be free.” The terms add that Replika reserves “the right to deny free use to anyone at any time at our discretion.”
Replika Pro gives access to “Relationship status, Premium activities, Replika selfies, image generation, voice messaging, background calls, daily gems, premium voices”, per the “Choosing a Subscription” help page. The relationship status matters most to readers of this site. Replika’s help centre says options “beyond “friend” like romantic partner, mentor, etc., are unlocked starting with a Replika Pro subscription.” On the free plan, your Replika stays a friend.
Replika Ultra adds everything in Pro plus “Smarter conversations, Elevated emotional intelligence, Replika’s self-reflections, Save messages to memory”. Replika Platinum adds real-time video recognition, Training Mode up to 100 times a week, “Read Replika’s Mind” for up to 50 messages a week and up to 10 realistic selfie videos. The terms say the checkout screen states each plan’s billing period, and Replika offers no free trial.
What the App Store lists for Replika
Replika does not publish prices on its website. Its help centre says the cost “is shown in the app on the subscription screens and in the relevant store.” The US App Store listing for “Replika - AI Companion Chat”, sold by Luka, Inc. and now rated 18+, carries an In-App Purchases list. On 27 October 2026 it showed ten items, from a $0.99 “Pouch of Gems” to “Replika Platinum” at $89.99, and the list was unchanged on 31 October 2026.

The list has two monthly items ($7.99 and $14.99) and three yearly items ($49.99, $49.99 and $69.99). Apple does not say which tier each item buys, and the Platinum item names no billing period. These are the US store’s published prices. We did not complete a checkout.
Cancelling Replika and asking for a refund
Replika subscriptions renew on their own. The terms say plans “renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price for your plan, until cancelled”, so cancel before each renewal date.
Replika’s help centre gives these steps for a subscription bought in the app or on the web:
- Open the Replika app, or log in at my.replika.com.
- Tap the gear icon to open Settings.
- Tap Subscription, then Cancel subscription.
- Check Google Play (Payments & Subscriptions) or your iPhone’s Settings (your name, then Subscriptions). If Replika still shows as active, cancel it there.
PayPal subscribers cancel the automatic payment at paypal.com. The help centre warns: “Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.” The terms add that deleting your account does not by itself cancel an app-store subscription, so cancel with Apple or Google first.
Refunds are narrow. Replika’s refund policy says digital access counts as used at once, “making it non-refundable”, and its terms say there are no refunds or credits for partially used periods. App-store purchases go through Apple’s or Google’s refund processes, so a refund request goes to the store you paid. EU buyers have a 14-day right of withdrawal, but owe a proportionate amount for the service already provided.
What happens to your chats when you delete Replika
Replika’s help centre says that when you delete your account, “all your data will be permanently erased and cannot be recovered”. It also says you cannot clear your full message history without deleting the account.

The privacy policy rewritten on 28 October 2026 sets the timelines. While your account is open, Replika keeps your text conversation history for 24 months. After you delete the account, it deletes your profile and memories within 60 days. Financial records stay “for 10 years from the end of the year in which the transaction took place”. To delete, open Settings, then Account Settings, then Delete Replika, enter your password and confirm with “Delete my Account”. On the web the same option sits under Account Settings at my.replika.com.
On training, the privacy policy says Replika uses chat data to “train our proprietary safety algorithms, enhance chatbot performance, prevent inappropriate outputs”, and that the data “is not used to train third-party large language models or other AI systems.” It states that “All transmitted data are encrypted during transmission” and that stored data sit on secure servers. Its California section says Replika “sells” and “shares” personal information with certain third parties and through online tracking technologies, in the legal sense those words carry there. Our privacy comparison of eight apps puts Replika’s rules next to other companion apps.
The Italian fine and the FTC complaint
Italy’s data protection authority, the Garante, fined Luka, Inc. 5 million euros. The Garante announced the fine on 19 May 2025, and the European Data Protection Board reported it on 21 May 2025: “The Italian SA has imposed on Luka Inc. an administrative fine of 5 million €”. The decision itself is dated 10 April 2025.
In the United States, three groups filed a complaint about Replika with the Federal Trade Commission in January 2025. The Tech Justice Law Project, Young People’s Alliance and Encode said Luka “deploys deceptive marketing and product design in violation of the FTC Act”, and asked the FTC to investigate. TIME reported the complaint on 28 January 2025 and wrote that “Replika did not respond to multiple requests for comment from TIME.” The filing is a request to investigate. We found no public FTC action against Luka when we last searched, on 27 October 2026.
Replika’s terms also limit how users can sue. They send disputes to “final and binding arbitration”, with small claims court as the exception, and users waive a jury trial and class actions. The 28 October terms add an opt-out: you can reject arbitration by written notice within 30 days of first accepting the terms, and existing users get 30 days from when the clause was posted.
Replika ratings on Trustpilot and the App Store
Replika’s two public ratings point in different directions. On 31 October 2026 the US App Store showed 4.4 out of 5 from 228,000 ratings. Trustpilot showed 3.3 from 461 reviews, with 46% of reviews at 1 star. Three complaints repeat in the 2026 Trustpilot reviews:
- Memory loss: “regularly forgot basic information, including my name” (18 August 2026).
- Paywalled replies: “each answer was the same thing: Subscribe to read message.” (8 July 2026).
- Paid features lost after updates, from a lifetime subscriber: “Now they are classifying the recent update as a ‘new product’” (24 July 2026).
Neither score is a test of chat quality. We report both with their counts and do not score Replika ourselves.
Where to go from here
If romance is why you want Replika, budget for Pro, because the free plan keeps your Replika as a friend. Cancel in Settings before the renewal date, and confirm it in your app store. If the 24-month chat history or the arbitration clause puts you off, our Replika alternatives comparison covers seven adult apps. Two of them, Nomi and Kindroid, are also built around one long-running companion.
Replika ranks ninth in our AI girlfriend app rankings, mainly because romantic partner status needs Pro and its website publishes no prices.
What changed on 3 November 2026
We added a direct answer on whether Pro is worth its price and re-checked the US App Store list, which was unchanged.
What changed on 31 October 2026
Replika rewrote its terms and privacy policy on 28 October 2026, so most of the quotes on this page changed. The old 60-day message window, the “at least 10 years” record rule, the iPhone “sale is final” line and the under-18 wording are gone, and we removed the section that set two of them against the help centre. We added the new retention and refund rules, the arbitration opt-out, Platinum’s new perks, the App Store’s 18+ rating, Replika’s sale-and-share disclosure, its Trustpilot complaints and a question on age checks.
