  • All purchases final, no refunds
  • Run by Sunspot LLC, New Mexico

TL;DR

Hammer AI gives 600 free cloud messages a day, sends recent chat text to an ad server on the free tier and calls every sale final. Re-read 31 Oct 2026.

Hammer AI (HammerAI) is an AI character chat and roleplay platform that runs on the web, on iOS and Android, and as a desktop app that can run models on your own computer. Its pricing page on 27 October 2026 listed a free plan with 600 cloud messages a day and three paid plans at $9, $18 and $35 a month. The same page says “all purchases are final.”

This is a research overview. On 27 October 2026 we read Hammer AI’s pricing page, privacy policy, terms of service, FAQ and both app store listings, and we quote them with their dates. We have not paid for Hammer AI, so this page has no score and no verdict on chat quality. How we test explains what a paid test would add. Hammer AI is for adults: its terms say users must be “at least 18 years of age”. If you came here to compare it with other character apps, our Character.AI alternatives comparison puts the main options side by side.

Who makes Hammer AI

Hammer AI’s website names no company. The terms of service and privacy policy call the operator only “HammerAI”, with team@hammerai.com as the contact and no postal address. The app stores fill the gap. Google Play lists the developer as Sunspot LLC, 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the US App Store lists the seller as “Sunspot LLC (Apps)”.

The pricing page says “HammerAI is built by one developer as a passion project.” The desktop app’s releases sit on GitHub under hammer-ai/hammerai, a repository created on 2 December 2023, with version 1.0.78 published on 15 October 2026. The iOS app came out on 15 July 2026.

Hammer AI works two ways. The desktop app runs local models through Ollama and Llama.cpp, needs no login, and on its desktop page promises local messages “will never leave the app”. Everything on the web and mobile is a cloud model, and cloud models require an account “so that we can fight abuse”, per the FAQ.

Hammer AI plans and published prices

PlanPublished price, 27 Oct 2026Cloud messagesContextMonthly credits
Free$0600 a day8,192 tokens0
Starter$9 a monthUnlimited16,384 tokens1,500
Advanced$18 a monthUnlimited32,768 tokens3,500
Ultimate$35 a monthUnlimited65,536 tokens9,000

Local models in the desktop app are free and unlimited on every plan. Credits pay for extras: the pricing page charges “10 credits per image, 5 per TTS” (text to speech), and chat on a paid plan uses no credits. Plan credits “expire at the end of each billing period and do not roll over”. Credit packs bought separately run from $1.99 for 200 credits to $99.99 for 20,000, and “Purchased credits never expire.”

The pricing page disagrees with itself on one point. The plan cards list 2, 4, 8 and 16 cloud models for Free, Starter, Advanced and Ultimate. The “Compare Plans” table on the same page lists 2, 4, 6 and 10.

What the app stores charge that the website does not show

The US App Store sells billing periods that hammerai.com/pricing does not list. On 27 October 2026, and again on 31 October, the HammerAI listing showed weekly plans (Starter $2.49, Advanced $4.99, Ultimate $9.99), monthly plans at $8.99, $17.99 and $34.99, an Ultimate quarterly plan at $94.99, and credit packs at $1.99, $4.99 and $9.99. Starter weekly at $2.49 works out to about $10.79 a month over a year (our arithmetic, 52 weeks divided by 12), which is more than the $9 web monthly plan.

Google Play gives a range instead of a list: “$1.99 - $329.99 per item”. No $329.99 item appears on Hammer AI’s own pricing page, and the Play listing does not name it.

Hammer AI’s free tier and your chat text

Hammer AI’s privacy policy, last updated 16 October 2026, says two different things about your chats. Section 2.1 says: “We do not collect any information about your conversations with characters.” Section 11.1 says that on the free tier, “your browser sends a limited amount of recent chat content” to the advertising server of Elo (formerly Growl), through the subdomain elo.hammerai.com.

Cookie settings do not stop this. Section 16.2 of the privacy policy says the sharing “occurs on our free tier regardless of your cookie settings; to fully opt out, upgrade to a paid plan.” Paid plans show no ads and send no chat content to ad providers. The App Store privacy label, which the developer fills in, lists “Other User Content” under data linked to you.

Cloud chats also leave Hammer AI’s servers for the model providers. Section 13.1 says cloud messages go to third-party AI services, including OpenRouter, and “may be stored, logged, or used by these providers for their own purposes, including but not limited to AI model training”. Hammer AI’s own promise is narrower: “HammerAI does not use user data to train AI models internally.” Its FAQ goes further and says cloud messages “are not stored or used for training”, which does not match section 13.1. The App Store listing also says “free to chat, no ads, no tracking”, while the privacy policy sends recent free-tier chat text to an ad server. Trust the privacy policy, because it is the binding document. The privacy policy states no period for keeping chat logs, and it names no encryption standard beyond “industry-standard security practices”. Local chats in the desktop app stay on your device, per the privacy policy and FAQ. Our privacy comparison of eight companion apps shows how other apps word the same rules.

Refunds, cancelling and deleting your account

Hammer AI sells through Gank (ganknow.com), which the privacy policy names as “merchant of record and seller of record”. The pricing page carries the refund rule in a banner under the credit packs.

The terms carve out one exception. Section 28.1 keeps “the right to withdraw from distance contracts within 14 days” for consumers in the EU and EEA.

To cancel a web subscription, the pricing page says to click “Manage” on your plan, which opens Gank, where you can “cancel, pause, or modify your subscription.” If you subscribed in the iPhone or Android app, cancel in your device’s subscription settings. Section 15.1 of the terms warns that deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription.

You delete your account in Settings. Section 17.1 of the privacy policy says your profile, private characters and private stories are “permanently deleted”, while public characters and stories “may remain on the platform”.

Arbitration and the $50 liability cap

Hammer AI’s terms, last updated 29 May 2026, choose “the laws of the State of Delaware”. Disputes go to binding arbitration with the American Arbitration Association, and users waive class actions and jury trials. Hammer AI caps its liability at the amount you paid in the prior six months or “the sum of fifty U.S. dollars (USD $50)”, whichever is less. Section 30.1 makes changes to the terms “effective immediately upon posting”.

You can opt out of arbitration. Section 27.5 asks for an email to team@hammerai.com “within 30 days of first accepting these Terms”, with your name, email and a clear statement that you opt out. Compare Nastia AI, which uses French law instead and has no arbitration clause.

Ratings, breaches and age rules

Hammer AI has few public ratings. On 31 October 2026 the US App Store showed 3.2 out of 5 from 21 ratings, and Google Play showed 1K+ downloads with no star rating, rated Mature 17+ although the terms set the age at 18. Trustpilot had no Hammer AI profile. Have I Been Pwned listed no breach for Hammer AI.

The terms set the age floor at “at least 18 years of age, or the age of consent in the jurisdiction”, whichever is greater. Users confirm their age themselves, and the compliance page describes no ID check. The content guidelines, last updated 7 April 2026, say characters that portray users as underage “will be removed.”

Where to go from here

If you want Hammer AI for privacy, the desktop app with a local model is the version the privacy policy treats as private. On the web, budget for a paid plan if you do not want recent chat text sent to an ad server, and remember that every purchase is final. If you want a companion app with a different refund or data rule, our Character.AI alternatives comparison and Janitor AI alternatives list adult apps with their published prices.

Two of those apps pay us if you subscribe: OurDream AI and Candy AI. Affiliate links: we may earn a commission at no cost to you. Kindroid pays us nothing and is also built around chat with one long-running companion.

What changed on 31 October 2026

We re-read every page. Hammer AI’s prices, terms and privacy policy are unchanged. The App Store rating count rose from 19 to 21, and we added the App Store credit packs, Google Play’s Mature 17+ rating, and two places where Hammer AI’s FAQ and App Store listing promise more privacy than its privacy policy does.
