Standards
Editorial policy
The rules every review on this site follows, from the first test to the last correction.
Last updated
How a review is made
- Test. We buy a plan and run the standard test in How we test.
- Draft. The writer drafts from the test notes. Every number in the draft comes from the test record or a linked source.
- Check. An editor compares each claim with the record and the app's own pricing and policy pages. Any claim we cannot support is removed.
- Publish. The review goes live with its test record, its test date and an affiliate disclosure where links pay us.
- Update. We re-check prices every 90 days and re-test once a year, or sooner after a major change.
Sources we use
- First: our own test record, and the app's own pricing page, terms and privacy policy.
- Second: app store listings, published company statements and news reports from named outlets.
- Background only: Reddit threads and user reviews. We use them to find problems worth testing, never as proof on their own.
Affiliate conflicts
Affiliate commissions pay for the tests. We manage that conflict with a fixed rubric, the same test for every app, and lists that include the category leaders whether they pay us or not. A partner can score low, and we publish it when it does. See the affiliate disclosure.
Content rules
- No explicit images or explicit chat text on any page.
- Nothing that depicts or suggests anyone under 18. We do not review apps or features built for that.
- No content about real people without their consent, including deepfake features.
- No invented quotes, testers, users or results.
- AI tools may help with drafts and checks. A person on the team tests the app, edits the review and takes responsibility for every claim.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated note at the end of the page that says what changed. Send corrections through the contact page.
What we never do
- Accept payment for a review, a score or a position in a list.
- Let an app maker see a review before it is published.
- Remove a fair negative review because an app maker asks.
