For a Replika-style companion that remembers you, the closest alternatives are Nomi and Kindroid, both built around one long-running relationship. OurDream, Candy AI and SweetDream are adult apps with images and romance on paid plans, and SpicyChat suits people who want many characters. We compared seven apps on their own pages, first read between 19 and 22 October 2026 and re-checked on 31 October 2026. All of them are for adults 18 and over.
This is desk research. We have not paid for these apps, so there are no scores. How we test explains what a paid test would add. We earn a commission if you subscribe through links marked with a dagger (†). The other apps pay us nothing.
What Replika charges for, and what it keeps
Replika is run by Luka, Inc. in San Francisco. Our Replika plans and refunds overview quotes its terms and App Store prices in full. Text chat is free, and its help centre says “chatting with Replika will always be free.” Romance is not:
Replika’s help centre lists four plans: Free Use, Pro, Ultra and Platinum. Its terms, rewritten on 28 October 2026, describe plans only as “those described on the subscription and checkout screens”. Prices appear “in the app on the subscription screens and in the relevant store”, and Replika offers no free trial. The terms say “payments are non-refundable and there are no refunds or credits for partially used periods.”
Replika’s privacy policy changed on the same day. While your account is open, Replika keeps your text conversation history for 24 months. After you delete the account, it deletes your profile and memories “within 60 days”. Financial records stay “for 10 years from the end of the year in which the transaction took place”. It uses chat data to train its own safety systems and “enhance chatbot performance”, and says the data is “not used to train third-party large language models or other AI systems”.
In May 2025 Italy’s data protection authority, the Garante, fined Luka, Inc. €5 million. The European Data Protection Board reported the fine on 21 May 2025.
What Replika users complain about
Replika’s Trustpilot page shows 3.3 stars from 461 reviews, and 46% of them give 1 star. Three complaints repeat in the 2026 reviews:
- Memory loss, even on a paid plan: “regularly forgot basic information, including my name” (18 August 2026).
- Replies locked behind the paywall: “each answer was the same thing: Subscribe to read message.” (8 July 2026).
- Paid features lost after updates, from a lifetime subscriber: “Now they are classifying the recent update as a ‘new product’” (24 July 2026).

Commission does not set the order or the labels. Each “best for” label names the one published fact where that app differs most from Replika, and each app made the list because it publishes its own price or refund rule on a page we could read and quote.

If you want one companion that remembers you
Nomi and Kindroid are the closest to Replika’s one-companion model, and both are in the App Store and Google Play like Replika. Nomi publishes $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year, and free accounts get two images a day. Kindroid gives new users a 3-day premium trial that needs a card, which Replika does not offer. Its free preview ends after 50 messages, and its US App Store listing shows $15.99 a month or $159.99 a year. If you want romance and images without an in-app paywall surprise
OurDream and Candy AI publish their prices on their own websites, so you see the cost before you sign up. OurDream lists $19.99 a month, and Candy AI $13.99 a month or $47.88 a year. Both keep refund windows narrow. Our Candy AI vs OurDream comparison sets them side by side.
Stay with Replika if free chat on your phone is enough
Replika’s help centre promises free chat for good, and Replika runs as a native app on both iPhone and Android. If you never wanted romance or images, the free plan may already cover you. The complaints above mostly come from paying users.
How to leave Replika cleanly
- Cancel where you paid. In the Replika app or at my.replika.com, open the gear icon, then Subscription, then Cancel subscription. For Google Play, go to your profile icon, Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. On iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Replika says it does not manage App Store, Google Play or PayPal subscriptions itself.
- Cancel before you delete. Replika’s terms say deleting your account “does not by itself cancel an app-store subscription”.
- Delete the account if you want your chats gone. Go to Settings, Account Settings, Delete Replika, then enter your password. Replika says there is no way to delete your whole message history without deleting the account.
- Ask for a copy first if you want one. Replika has no export button, so use the copy right in its privacy policy before you delete.
What changed on 31 October 2026
Replika rewrote its terms and privacy policy on 28 October 2026. The terms no longer name plans or quote the old Apple refund line, and the privacy policy replaced the 60-day message window with 24 months while the account is open. We replaced our retention chart with the table above, because the chart showed the old rules. We also added best-for labels, Kindroid’s new 3-day trial, Replika’s Trustpilot complaints, the exit steps and a new question on EU and UK refunds.
Later on 31 October 2026, Kindroid’s US App Store listing began showing prices, so its row now gives them instead of “shown at checkout only”.
