Eight AI companion apps let you set up a male partner in October 2026, and they do it in three different ways. Nomi and Kindroid ask for a gender when you create the companion. Candy AI and Nastia run dedicated boyfriend pages. Janitor AI and SpicyChat sort user-made characters by a Male tag, which on SpicyChat is the largest tag on the site at 213,720 characters, counted on its homepage on 31 October 2026.
The price of the romance differs more than the setup does. Replika’s help centre says romantic partner status comes “starting with a Replika Pro subscription”, and Nomi’s wiki says “Voice is available with paid Nomi subscriptions.”
I read each app’s help centre, pricing page, terms and privacy policy between 27 and 31 October 2026, all listed in the sources at the end. We have not paid for these apps, so nothing here carries a score. The order follows how many of five buyer questions each app answers on its own pages: how to make him male, how much of his personality you can write, what voice costs, what the free plan includes and what the paid plan costs. Ties keep alphabetical order. Commission plays no part in it, and how we test explains what a paid test would add. Every app here is for adults only.
Candy AI pays us a commission if you subscribe through the links on this page. The other seven apps earn us nothing from it.
The 8 AI boyfriend apps, in order
Nomi: best for a romantic companion with a written backstory
Nomi’s wiki says companions “default to she/her if you choose Female, he/him if you choose Male, and they/them if you choose Nonbinary.” Relationship types are Friend, Mentor, Romantic and Custom, and the wiki page on them does not mark Romantic as paid. His long-term facts live in a Mind Map, where “each entry can be a max of 10,000 characters.”

Voice messages and calls are paid, as the wiki line above shows. Free chat needs no card, and free messages stop at 400 characters against 800 on a paid plan. Nomi’s own comparison article lists $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year. Skip it if hearing his voice is the point and you will not pay. Our Nomi AI overview has its privacy terms.
SpicyChat: best for picking from user-made male characters
SpicyChat’s homepage filter lists “Male 213720”, ahead of every other tag. You can also write your own character, and its docs say “Personalities can be a maximum of 5000 characters long.” The free plan carries a context of up to 4,096 tokens, so he holds less of a long chat in mind than on a paid plan, which reaches up to 32,768 tokens on I’m All In.

SpicyChat keeps voice for its top plan. Text-to-speech, with “both male and female” voices, is “Exclusively for I’m All In subscribers”, and we found no voice calls. Plans were $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95 a month on 29 October 2026, or $60, $199.95 and $299.95 a year. Its community guidelines say “All users must be at least 18 years old.” Skip it if you want one companion who is built for you from the start, since the catalogue is the main draw. Visit SpicyChat.
Candy AI: best for a ready-made boyfriend with images
Candy AI’s site header switches between “Guys”, “Girls” and “Anime Guys”, and its boyfriend page offers a creator where you shape “his look, personality” in one flow. Its help centre says you can shape a character’s “personality, identity, and backstory” through conversation, but it publishes no field limits. Voice messages and “Voice Calls (beta)” spend tokens, and a subscription includes “100 free tokens every month”. Premium Plus adds “Memory slots (20)”.
The free plan is a short look: “Send up to 5 messages in chat (across all characters)”, one custom character and one image. The boyfriend page also mentions a “7-day trial”, which the help centre does not, so expect the 5-message limit unless the trial is offered to you. On 29 October 2026 the US price was $3.99 a month billed as $47.88 a year, or $9.99 for the first month and $13.99 a month after. Candy AI runs in the browser and has no official app. Skip it if you want voice calls without counting tokens. Janitor AI: best for free text chat with no cap
Janitor AI tags male characters with a “Male” label on its cards, and its creator help page says tags let a bot “be filtered and searched for”. If you write your own, the page recommends staying “under 2500 permanent tokens” for his personality. The free plan offers “Unlimited chats with millions of bots” with a “Context limit of around 9k tokens”. Janitor+ costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year and gives “5x more context”.
We found no voice feature in Janitor’s help centre. Skip it if you want to hear him at all. Our Janitor AI alternatives page covers apps with voice.
Kindroid: best for a full preview before paying
Kindroid’s setup step says: “Enter a Kindroid Name, pick Male or Female, and tap Continue.” Gender also sets his default voice.

His personality field “holds up to 2,000 characters, or 2,500 if you subscribe.” New accounts get “50 messages with standard paid memory (15 in some regions)” and 5,000 audio credits for voice messages, then the account goes read-only. Calls and custom voices need a subscription, and Kindroid says “You’ll see the exact price for your country and platform at checkout.” Skip it if you want to know the price before you sign up. See our Kindroid overview.
CrushOn: best for a low-cost paid plan
CrushOn asks new visitors “Which gender are you interested in?” with Female, Male and Non-binary as answers, and its sidebar has a Gender filter. Its pricing page lists voice messages and custom voice on every plan, with 1 custom voice slot on Free and 3 on Standard. Free gives “100 Message Credits / Month” and “8K Memory”, and warns: “Chat History will be deleted after 7 days of inactivity.” Standard was $5.99 a month on 31 October 2026, or $58.88 a year. CrushOn publishes no field limits for characters. Skip it if you will leave him for a week on the free plan. Our CrushOn AI overview covers its refund terms.
Nastia: best for building one boyfriend from scratch
Nastia’s boyfriend page starts with a “Create him” step where you set “name, personality, looks, voice, backstory”, and the page says “He remembers you across sessions.” Voice messages and cloned voices appear on the Unlimited card, not the free one. The free plan gives one companion, but the same page says both “Daily token limits” and “no daily message caps”, so the free allowance is unclear. Plans were $11.99 and $15.99 a month on Nastia’s compare page on 27 October 2026, and the boyfriend page showed Unlimited at $15.99 on 31 October 2026. It runs in the browser only. Skip it if you want a clear free limit. Our Nastia AI overview has more.
Replika: best for a free friend who may become more
Replika’s help centre says you’ll “see the option to change your name and gender” in the profile, and that changing gender “won’t affect your relationship or conversation history.” It says chat “will always be free”, but romance is paid: options beyond friend “like romantic partner, mentor, etc., are unlocked starting with a Replika Pro subscription.” Voice calls are paid too. Replika shows prices only “in the app on the subscription screens and in the relevant store”, so we cannot list one. Skip it if you want a boyfriend without paying. Read our Replika overview, or the Replika alternatives page if the paywall is the problem.

What each app says about your chats
A boyfriend app hears more personal detail than most apps, so the privacy clause matters as much as the price.
- Candy AI uses interactions to “train and develop our AI models and moderation technologies”, and its datasets may include “human review of de-identified and/or anonymized interactions” (privacy policy, revised 19 October 2026).
- CrushOn says: “We may use User Content from character chats to train AI models.”
- Replika uses “small portions of Messages and Content data to train our proprietary safety algorithms”, and says this data “is not used to train third-party large language models”. Its policy, revised 28 October 2026, keeps text chat history “for 24 months” while your account is open.
- Nastia uses your content to improve “the quality of companion replies” and says chats are “never sold”.
- Nomi says it “does not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.”
- Kindroid, Janitor AI and SpicyChat publish no statement on training with your chats that we could find. SpicyChat’s privacy policy was last updated on 4 May 2023.
Our AI girlfriend app privacy page compares how long these apps keep your data after you leave.
A boyfriend app we left out
Anima runs a dedicated boyfriend site, but its age rules disagree. Its privacy policy asks users to confirm they are “OVER 16 YEARS OF AGE”, its terms say 18, and its Google Play listing carries an “Everyone” rating. We do not list apps whose own pages admit users under 18.
Which AI boyfriend app to try first
- For romance on a free plan with a written backstory: Nomi, with voice later if you pay.
- For the widest choice of ready-made male characters: SpicyChat or Janitor AI.
- For a paid boyfriend with images and voice in one app: Candy AI.
- For a long free preview of a paid-grade companion: Kindroid’s 50 messages.
Open the one that fits, create him, and note how many messages you get before the paywall. If you want story-heavy roleplay rather than a relationship, our AI roleplay chatbots page compares lorebooks and context per plan.
