The closest Janitor AI alternatives for a big library of user-made characters are SpicyChat and CrushOn. Nomi and Kindroid suit one long-running companion, and OurDream, Candy AI and SweetDream add image generation. We compared eight adult apps on what their own pages published on 21 and 22 October 2026, and re-checked every page on 31 October 2026. All of them are for adults 18 and over.
This is desk research. We have not paid for these apps, so there are no scores. How we test explains what a paid test would add.
What Janitor AI offers in October 2026
Janitor AI is run by JanitorAI Inc. in the United States. Its free tier gives “Unlimited chats with millions of bots” on its own model, JLLM, with a context limit of “around 9k tokens”. Janitor says it will “always keep a free option available”.
Janitor also sells a paid plan, janitor+. Its page showed $12.99 a month or $99 a year on 31 October 2026, which works out at $8.25 a month on the yearly plan, with a note that “Plans/prices may change.” It adds five times the context, faster replies and more models. A pay-per-token Router for outside models costs extra, and Router credits are “final and non-refundable”.
You can also connect your own model through an API proxy, which the terms allow. The terms bar explicit images in character avatars.
Why people look for a Janitor AI alternative
Reliability is one reason, and Janitor’s own changelog records it. Between 31 July and 2 October 2026 it posted at least seven separate problems, from site-wide downtime to lost chat memory. On 30 October it posted that creator analytics was down.

The worst model fault ran for about 12 hours in August:

Other reasons come from Janitor’s own rules. Users in Australia, Brazil and the UK must pass a one-time age check before they can use the site. The free context of about 9k tokens means long roleplays lose earlier detail unless you pay or connect your own model. On Trustpilot, janitorai.com still had a TrustScore of 2.5 from 35 reviews on 31 October 2026, on an unclaimed profile. Three complaints stand out:
- Bans with no explanation: “staff refused to provide any details, explain their policies, or engage in actual customer support” (11 September 2026). A paying user reported the same on 15 October 2026.
- Bans the reviewer disputes: “They banned me for an image that was neither NSFW nor a minor.” (21 August 2026).
- Memory and roleplay quality: “The memory is trash, the Roleplay never does what you say” (7 April 2026).
Eight Janitor AI alternatives side by side
We earn a commission if you subscribe through links marked with a dagger (†). The other apps pay us nothing. Each “best for” label names the one published fact where that app differs most from Janitor AI, and commission does not set the labels or the order.

If you want a big library of user-made characters
SpicyChat is the closest in shape to Janitor. It is free to use with ads, and its docs give free users “Up to 4,096 tokens” of memory, less than Janitor’s free 9k. Its top I’m All In tier lists “Up to 32,768 tokens”. The cheapest paid plan, $5.95 a month, removes the ads.
CrushOn also hosts user-made characters. Its free plan lists 100 message credits a month, and paid tiers run from $5.99 to $199.99 a month. Our CrushOn AI overview covers its tier ladder and cancel steps.
If you want one companion that remembers you
Nomi and Kindroid are built around a single long-running companion, which suits people who used Janitor for one ongoing story. Nomi’s free accounts get two images a day. Kindroid’s free preview ends after 50 messages, or 15 in some regions, and new users can take a 3-day premium trial that needs a card. Our Nomi and Kindroid overviews cover their prices and data rules.
If you want images as well as chat
OurDream, Candy AI and SweetDream add image generation to chat. Their free allowances are small: Candy and SweetDream each give 5 messages in total, and OurDream lists no free tier. Our Candy AI alternatives page compares their refund rules and yearly prices in more detail.
Stay with Janitor AI if free and flexible matters most
No other app here offers unlimited free chats, and none describes a way to plug in your own model through an API proxy. If outages and the 9k free context do not bother you, Janitor’s free tier is hard to beat on price.
Leave Janitor AI without losing your characters
- Copy your character definitions. Janitor has no help article on exporting characters or chats. Its privacy policy gives you a right to a copy of your data in a machine-readable format, but does not say how to ask.
- Cancel janitor+ where you bought it. On the web, go to Settings, Billing, then Manage Subscription. Subscriptions bought in an app have to be cancelled in that app’s store.
- Spend or forfeit your credits. Janitor’s terms say deleting the account cancels “all unused Purchased Credits and Promotional Credits” without refund.
- Delete the account. Go to Settings, open the Security tab and click Delete account, then enter the one-time code sent to your email. Janitor’s pages disagree on what happens next. Its help article calls deletion permanent, while its 13 August 2026 changelog says deletion starts a 30-day countdown during which you can sign back in and restore everything.
Then try the free tier of the app whose row fits you, and pay only after the free messages show you how it handles a long chat.
What changed on 31 October 2026
We re-read every source. Kindroid’s refund wording changed to “generally” no refunds, its preview dropped to 15 messages in some regions and it added a 3-day trial. Replika’s 28 October terms replaced the refund wording we quoted, and Nomi’s page now states only an image allowance for free accounts. We removed a line about a SpicyChat price rise that no source supports. We added a best-for label per app, Trustpilot complaints, exit steps, a refund question and the sources behind every row.
Later on 31 October 2026, Kindroid’s US App Store listing began showing prices, so its row now gives them instead of “shown at checkout only”.
